Ambientologist An album of resonant feeling and piercing clarity, aptly painting its themes of reflection and unfamiliarity. From reassuring repetitions in its opening tracks, to the more dislocating and pensive pieces later on, there is a real thoroughness to the emotions delivered. And yet, Suññatā's minimal grounding never demands more than the listener is willing to give. Favorite track: Lokuttara.

Anthony Davies Short and sweet. Clocking in at just 23 and a half minutes it is a short album, but it is also very sweet.

Most tracks are built around a repetitive piano figure which is built upon by synths. The final track, Suññatã has the potential to loosen your fillings with its very low drone.

My favourite track keeps on changing as repeated listens reveal more to me but I settled on track 5, Asãraka., which starts with a whimper and swells into powerful end.

Rinchen Choesang Another winner from the Home Normal label. Ian's own brilliant, inventive and engaging musicianship attracts some amazing ambient talent to HN.

Fittingly meditative. Perhaps the brevity of the tracks, which could be much longer, reflect the folly of musical grasping. They are what they are - insubstantial and transient, as is our perception that apprehends them.

about

Following last year's reworking of ‘Living Treasure’ James Murray and Mike Lazarev present a collection of post-classical compositions woven into delicate ambient textures. Suññatā is the experience of encountering the non-self, of a sound and its reflection meeting in empty space, found here in the remarkable combined resonance of emotive piano and uniquely reactive sound design.

PRESS:

'It’s easy to zone out when listening to this beautiful album, but paradoxically the record is also one of great focus. Murray and Lazarev focus on finding emptiness and peace, searching an inner Universe rather than the outer, physical world. Music is the great mediator between the two, and it speaks nothing but truth.' Fluid Radio

'The seven instrumentals on Suññata¯ are often inordinately pretty, a few so rich in melody they're closer to song-styled, post-classical miniatures than ambient vignettes.' Textura

'The seven pieces have a dream like quality, one which has a slight blurriness that removes any sharp edges which allows for the listener to fall deep into the pieces.' Drifting, Almost Falling

'Lazarev‘s post-classical piano compositions are colored by the delicate textures created by Murray which feel like a natural echo reflecting back the soul of the piano.' Ambientblog
